Another Pastoral Epistle
March 14, 2018
Hi EBC family,
I concur with the church sign that said, “Whoever is praying for snow, please stop.” On another church sign were the words, “Everything cancelled until snow is gone” (hopefully they are joking). Another sign in NH warned, “Wicked stawm comin’.” A seafood restaurant on the coast told its customers, “We are open until the letters fly off this sign.” I love this homeowner’s capitalizing on the opportunity with its sign on their front lawn, “Unassembled snowmen for sale.” Isn’t that just snow?
I am reminded of the words of Solomon in Proverbs 10:25, “When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.” My guess is that Solomon’s use of wicked is different than us New Englanders. And likely he is not referring to our third Nor’easter. But we can stand firm!
Many of you are going through storms! Stand firm! It is no accident that our theme for this year is “Be Strong and Courageous.” There is no shortage of application of those words.
I would encourage you to write down instances when being strong and courageous was needed in your life. And be sure to include the faithfulness of God in outcomes. These are memorials to look back and move forward in the confidence of God’s powerful presence. At some point in this year, I would love to provide opportunities for testimonials to God working in this way in your life. Perhaps, there will be some stories to tell of conversation starters from the wearing of the bracelet.
There is some exciting news from the Dominican Republic and I hope you will stick around after worship this Sunday to hear from Andy and Justin about how God worked in their latest missions trip to the DR.
Although it may seem like a stretch to talk about soccer on these snowy days, it isn’t too soon to get “pepped up” for reaching kids in our community through On-Goal Soccer Camp. The On Goal Pep Rally is March 25th from 9:45-10:15 in room 104. Whether or not you know what On Goal is all about or if you are unsure of your involvement this year, you won’t want to miss this pep rally!
Friday night is the full showing of the movie, “Appalachian Dawn” at 6:00. God is using this true story of transformation in Kentucky to stir many of us to praying for our city and seeking God to what we are to do in reaching our area for Christ.
That is the same rationale behind moving to two services beginning March 25th. The hope is that with more options the empty seats are filled with people who are not attending EBC presently. Please pray that more people come under the hearing of God’s Word and in contact with the church family on Sunday mornings. Spread the word and be aware of welcoming visitors with love and grace as EBC has done so well over the years.
A reminder that our worship will be at 8:30 & 10:30 with mingling time in between from 9:45-10:30. EBC Kids program will be offered during second service only, with nursery offered in both. Any morning Bible studies will be during first service. See you Sunday if not sooner!
Be strong and courageous, Pastor Brian

Holy Week Devotionals
These devotionals will begin on Palm Sunday.
They will be available for pick up this Sunday and next.
On Friday, March 16 from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm,
the Local Outreach Team will show the entire (two hour) version, including personal accounts, of “An Appalachian Dawn” in the Fellowship Hall. The movie tells the account of the City of Manchester, Kentucky and their surrounding county as they confronted the problems and effects of epic drug and alcohol abuse. A desperate band of believers cried “Enough!” and the Presence of God descended on Manchester and transformed it into a City of Hope! See how their transformation can be a model of faith and action to follow in transforming our own community.
