Another Pastoral Epistle 4-11-18

April 11, 2018

Hi Church,

I often return to Second Chronicles 20 for encouragement. There is a rich prayer that ends with the words, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (verse 12). God then speaks through a prophet to remind Jehoshaphat and the people of God not to be discouraged for the battle is the Lord’s.

We then see one of God’s strange strategies for fighting the battle.  They would not use weapons of javelin and sword, but the weapon of song.  Second Chronicles 20 demonstrates that the enemies of God are thrown into confusion by the songs of God’s people.  The lesson for us is; When God tells us the battle is His and that victory is certain, the way we should meet the enemy is with songs of thanks. We learn from this true story that spiritual warfare is to be met with spiritual worship.  Paul and Silas are another case in point (see Acts 16).

Church, when you hit bottom, sing praises to God.  When you are facing a battle, sing praises to God. Let’s be singing saints!  Let’s continue to be a singing church.

I want to invite you to our community worshipthis Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.  We are joining with another area church at EBC for a night of singing, praise, and prayer.  Spiritual warfare is met with spiritual worship!  God delights in our locking arms in unity with other brothers and sisters to exalt our Lord Jesus Christ!

I have been encouraged by the smooth transition into two services.  EBC kids, hospitality, worship, and coffee time ministries have given extra effort to make this happen.  There are “bugs” to work out, but overall there has been positive feedback!  I do want to urge you to take advantage of the fellowship timebetween the two services.  It is a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces and the many visitors who have been attending our services as of late. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy that time!

Remember our philosophy of attend one/serve one.  Teacher and helpers are needed for EBC kids’ ministry during second service as well as nursery time in both services.  With the two-service format you can serve without missing worship.

You may not be aware, but there are Bible Studies offered during the first service (8:30-9:30).  Not only is Jeff Price teaching his class, but there is class on the book of Hebrews, “Pressing on to Maturity through the Supremacy of Christ.”

Sign-up for the Iron Sharpens Ironmen’s conference on Saturday, May 5th and to help with On Goal Soccer Camp.  If you haven’t taken the surveyabout the epistle, please take a few minutes to do that (click on link in announcements).  I appreciate those of you who have completed the 2-minute survey and your feedback.

And don’t forget to sing!  Do you know that God sings over you?  Zephaniah 3:16 says, “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”  Can you imagine what God’s singing voice sounds like?  Be strong and courageous, Pastor Brian
