Another Pastoral Epistle 4/10/19

I came away from the “What’s Next Banquet” the other night and wondered why we don’t do that more often. I don’t mean we should spend that kind of money for a church banquet on a regular basis, but just having that kind of fun together as a church family. It was a night of interesting testimonies for what God has done and is doing with a reminder to look forward to what is next for us as a church. There was laughter around the tables as Rob Tacker led us through a fun quiz (and, “No” I have not been to jail).

I announced that we are well on our way to our goal of $750,000 with over $230,000 already committed through the “first fruits” cards submitted prior to the banquet. The invitation was to the rest of the church family to participate in this campaign by seeking God’s direction for giving to “What’s Next.” Those commitment cards can be placed in the offering plate in the weeks to come or in the box located in the back of the sanctuary. We hope to receive those commitments by 4/28 so we can announce the total committed on May 5th. There are packets with commitment cards on the ministry counter if you would like to pick one up. A home visit is still an option if you would prefer to talk with someone in person. We now wait in expectation of what God is going to do in growing us and providing for us as a church!

You can also give to the On-Goal Soccer Camp scholarship fund by placing those gifts in offering plate, marked, “On-Goal.” Your generosity helps children attend this week-long camp and have opportunity to see and hear of the love of Jesus.

His love is so amazing that He was willing to take on our punishment for our sin! On Good Friday, April 19, we will spend some time together as a church family to put ourselves in the shoes of the disciples on the night Jesus broke bread with them. It will be a time of remembering, sharing, singing, reading Scriptures, and reflecting on His great love for us! Hope to see you there.

Coming up in May, we will include in our time of worship baby dedications. Likely the two dates will be Mother’s Day (5/12) and May 26. On Sunday May 5, I will have a brief meeting between services with all those interested in dedicating their children.

Speaking of children, I want to give a shout out to all those who minister to our children on Sunday mornings. Whether it is preparing a lesson, helping in the classroom or caring for babies in the nursery, it not only provides a safe place where children can grow in the things of the Lord, but it frees up parents to listen to God’s Word with God’s people in worship. Thanks to all EBC kids’ workers and Mary Whitman’s leadership!

Church, I thank God for you! I count it a privilege to serve with you in the Lakes Region and look forward to growing deeper as a church and having a greater impact on our community and beyond!

To God be the Glory!
Pastor Brian
