The Weekly Epistle 2/19/20

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

Everything in the world has a natural bell curve. Seeds, for example, sprout, grow into trees, bear fruit, and die. Likewise, ministry strategies also follow a natural process of development. God plants a vision in the heart of a leader, the vision grows and flourishes and runs its course, before eventually coming to a natural conclusion. Six months ago, Momentum Student Ministries was on the tail end of such a curve. But as one of the most enduring pop ballads of the 90’s states, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

In last week’s epistle, I shared that Momentum has a new leadership team. In this week’s epistle, I would like to share our new ministry plan. Before I share the details, I would like to point out that this plan is experimental. We’re going to try some new things over the next four months. In June, we will assess how things went and develop a long-term plan accordingly.

Without further ado, here’s the plan…

MONTHLY MOMENTUM
Momentum will return in March as a monthly program. We will retain the format of the weekly program, but with a renewed emphasis on preparation. We will seek to make the night fun and engaging. Special games and guest speakers are all in the works for this new exciting incarnation of our flagship ministry.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
We will be holding three special events over the next four months to foster opportunities for outreach, growth, and fellowship amongst our teens.

MOMENTUM SUNDAY STUDY
This spring, we’re going to run a pilot Sunday school program for teens called Momentum Sunday Study. We are putting together a special team of teachers and curriculum to help students grow deeper in their knowledge and relationship with Jesus.

MOMENTUM BASKETBALL OUTREACH
This March, we’re going to run a pilot basketball outreach just for teens. The outreach will take place Friday nights from 7-9 for the entire month.

That’s the plan for the next four months. I am still working with the Ministry Team to nail down details like exact dates and times, but we will share more soon. Keep your ear to the ground!

I want to leave you with an invitation.

Back in November, I asked EBC members at large to consider joining a special prayer team to pray for Momentum during this time of transition. Seven people signed up, and like Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ arms in battle, they have faithfully been holding Momentum up in prayer. Would you consider joining that team and increasing the influence and power of prayer over our ministry? I send out an email with prayer updates once a week. Email me at dan@ebclaconia.com if you would like to join the team.

Blessings,
Pastor Dan
